Halloween is upon us! How are you going to dress up?

Notice I didn’t ask if you’re going to dress up. That’s because I’m seriously suggesting that you do. Why not? It’s the perfect excuse to step away from the day-to-day and have a little fun—or maybe a lot of fun.

Halloween is less of a one-night event and more of an entire season these days. It is, in fact, one of the most popular holiday celebrations in the U.S. And it’s not just for kids anymore; we all can—and perhaps should—get in on the fun.

So, are you ready?

I think most people are really longing for a little lighthearted fun. We all get so caught up in daily life—work stuff, family obligations and civic commitments—that we forget to carve out time for pure and simple enjoyment.

The Time is Right

Some people say this isn’t the time for fun and frivolity. The world is an increasingly uncertain kind of place, and there’s a lot of discord in our country.  But I think fun is exactly what most people need right now to reduce stress levels, lower anxiety and help them stop worrying about trying to get it all done. (Here’s a little secret: You are not ever going to get it all done, so stop worrying about it.)

So, why not use Halloween as an excuse to have some fun?

I encourage you—no, I challenge you—to dress up and have a good time. You can “act your age” and put on that old leisure suit, silky shirt and white patent-leather shoes and channel your 1970s senior-prom self. (Wait, that was me, and back then I thought I was “the man.”)

Why not throw your own party, and invite folks to use your front yard or porch as trick-or-treat central? At the very least, put on a mask or a silly hat and go outside to watch the kids have fun. Their excitement and enjoyment likely will rub off on you.

I’m willing to bet that, sadly, until they read this blog post, some people weren’t even considering playing in that sandbox.

Boo to that! See this night for the opportunity it is!

A Bigger Picture

Seizing this fun moment reminds me of the importance and relevance of our 7F’s of True Success model. Just to refresh:  I’m talking about work Fundamentals, sound Finances (and building your financial legacy), Family (and friends), Faith, Fitness (physical and mental), Fun and the Fusion of all this.

Halloween is a great opportunity to enjoy some Funwith Familyand friends. Do enough walking with your trick-or-treaters, and you’ll touch on the Fitnessaspect, too. All Saints’ and All Souls’ days are coming up, and both are opportunities to devote time to your Faithand Family-related areas of your life.

Really, when you think about it, you owe it to yourself—and to those you care about—to have a little fun every now and then.
